Dynamsoft Adds GIF Support and Improves Decoding Accuracy in its Barcode Reader 2.1 SDK

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynamsoft today released a new version of its Barcode Reader software development kit (SDK) to add support for decoding barcodes from GIF images in addition to already having support for BMP, JPEG, PNG and TIFF images. The company has also optimized the decoding algorithm for reading code128 barcode types, resulting in noticeably improved accuracy of around 10 percent. The updated Dynamsoft SDK is Barcode Reader version 2.1.
These upgrades allows Dynamsoft to broaden application reach for Barcode Reader 2.1. Code128 barcodes are amongst the most popular used because they are very high density. This allows use of the 128 ASCII character set which enables a broad range of characters for storage of diversified information. So, code128 barcodes are popular in logistics, distribution, transportation and other similar applications.
Dynamsoft's Barcode Reader SDK allows application developers to almost instantly embed barcode decoding functionality in their web or desktop applications. It requires just a few lines of code instead of coding hundreds to more than a thousand lines from scratch. This can save months of development time which also means significant software and web development cost savings.
Other recent updates to Dynamsoft's Barcode Reader SDK include offering the SDK as an independent product. It previously only worked as an add-on to other Dynamsoft image capture SDKs. In addition, support for reading many other barcode types was recently added: code39,code128, code93, Codabar, ITF, EAN13, EAN8, UPCA, UPCE, and more.
Two editions of the Barcode Reader 2.1 SDK will be available, one for Windows® and one for Mac®. The Windows Edition provides C, C++, ActiveX / COM and .NET application programming interfaces (API). The Mac Edition provides C and C++ APIs. Once the SDK is integrated in an application, users can decode barcodes from various image file formats. This includes from device-independent bitmap (DIB) formats, which can be obtained from cameras or scanners.

World's First In-Theater Video Game League Brings Minecraft Competition To Seattle Movie Theaters

Airwheel Launches S5, New Generation of 2-Wheel, Self-Balancing Scooter
Airwheel rolled out its self-balancing scooter S5 -- the third generation of S series -- at the new products release conference on June 18. S5 features an upgraded battery and wider wheels, and targets enterprises and government as its major customers.
CHANGZHOU, China, June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Airwheel Technology launched its new self-balancing scooter S5 at the Airwheel 2015 New Products Release Conference held at the Wanda Sheraton Hotel in Changzhou, China on June 18. S5 is the third generation of the S-series and features a standing platform and a long control shaft, in contrast to the company's single-wheeled X and dual-wheeled Q series.
The S5 has many of its own features and cannot simply be regarded as an update to Airwheel S3. In fact, S5 was designed with the hopes of attracting a new customer base to the company. S5 is featured with SUV characterstics, as it was shown on the trailer played at the S5 conference.
The most obvious feature are the wheels, which are enlarged to 16 inches. Bigger wheels can make the scooter drive more steadily and have better performance while coping harsh terrains, such as gravel roads. Meanwhile, the battery is upgraded to 680 wh (compared to S3's 520 wh) which enables the scooter to cover a longer distance. According to the Airwheel website, the travel range of S5 is up to 50km (approximately 35 miles) when the battery is fully charged. According to the spokesman of the company, the target market of Airwheel S5 are enterprises and the government. In contrast to the previous generation S3 whose target market is mainly individual consumers, the 2-whelled S5 electric scooter is more suitable to be used as a work equipment. For example, it can be adopted as a patrolling vehicle by police officers, or it can be ridden by warehouse keepers to inspect goods.
There are other upgrades worth noting. For example, the control shaft of S5 is foldable. It is convenient for the rider to fold up the control shaft when parking the scooter so that it won't take up too much space. On each fender, there's an aluminum-alloy holder where you can install headlights (headlight is an optional addition to the standard package) to make riding at night safer. Airwheel plans to introduce the S5 at $3499.

Recent Completion of DPA Testing Validates Company's Secure Solution
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced it has completed differential power analysis (DPA) testing on its secure boot field programmable gate array (FPGA) solution, which resolves side channel vulnerabilities inherent in the configuration process of large static random-access memory (SRAM) FPGAs. The DPA testing was completed using the Test Vector Leakage Assessment (TVLA) methodology developed by Cryptography Research Incorporated (CRI), a division of Rambus. Results of the testing show Microsemi's secure boot solution has sufficient design margin to protect against side channel attacks. TVLA was developed to address the shortcomings of evaluation-based testing in this field. Rather than focusing on key extraction, which may depend heavily on the expertise of the evaluator, TVLA is based on a statistical approach to derive an objective pass/fail score on the underlying system's information leakage.
Microsemi's secure boot SRAM FPGA reference design is ideal for systems with requirements for high value intellectual property (IP) protection, including mitigations against side-channel attacks. Key applications include protection of high value commercial and critical infrastructure systems from cloning and reverse engineering. All commercially available SRAM FPGAs on the market today are susceptible to DPA and other related side-channel attacks, which can expose the bitstream decryption key and risk loss of valuable IP. The GR II is the smallest premium compact with DSLR image quality, making it ideal for advanced photographers who want the quality of an SLR camera but the portability of a smart phone.
To manage the new built-in Wi-Fi and NFC functions, Ricoh Imaging also announced GR Remote, a web-based application which allows users to control camera settings virtually via any browser, as well as view and share images wirelessly. Image Sync, available on PENTAX DSLR models, is also supported on the new GR II. It enables GR users to easily browse and transfer images to accompanying mobile devices.
