TODAY IS THE DAY Old Wed Jun 2, 2004 11:55:24 AM #8756 Perm Link
<---Avatar changed for the release of Today is the Day's new album, "Kiss The Pig".

Get ready. This is going to be the most intense recording you've ever heard.
Sonic hate delivered with a musical prowess and style so potent that it could only be Today is the Day's work. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Today is the Day is by far my favorite band in the metal scene right now. They've been the masters of all that that is wrong for a decade and will still continue to do so so it seems. Kiss the Pig follows the trend in Today is the Day's recordings as it does not sound like any other Today is the Day recording. At all.

I like my share of hateful, ugly, sick shit. Khanate, Watchmaker, Burning Witch, Swarm of the Lotus... etc. But nothing, and I mean, nothing compares to a Today is the Day album. Whether it's in terms of emotion, creativity, originality, reality, artistically, whatever... Today is the Day has been making musical history for a while. And I have no doubt the new album will again set the standard for what real music is supposed to sound like.

JUNE 29TH!!!!

The new album drops then.
New hate for now people.

As far as their back catalogue goes... it's incredible. Buy it.

Discuss.

Edit: Spelled Khanate right.

Yes. It was a typo.

I got an advanced copy of the CD. It runs about a half an hour long. It's incredible and once again sounds like nothing Today is the Day has ever put out.

EDIT: This is the 666th post of the music forum. I am so uber METALLLLLLLLLLL.

Heh, that EDIT made you sound like some of the retards at my school who literally sit around and talk about how "punk rock" they are (I eavesdrop on them). Only difference is you actually are "metal", you know your shit. Anyhow, is there someway I can listen to some of their music? You made this sound like the album to end all albums, so now I wanna check it out. But I wanna make sure I like 'em first.

Well there are some videos and mp3's available in the Sound and Vision area of their website, http://www.todayistheday.org

You may find that there is vast difference between the mp3's from selective albums. This is because no two Today is the Day albums sound the same. When I said experimental, I wasn't kidding. Steve Austin has a passion for music and what he wants to do is create real, raw, emotional art.

Some mp3's from the new album can be found here: http://shop.relapse.com/store/product.aspx?ProductID=19576 in the "Hear it" section.

Don't be surprised if at first you're not too fond of them. It's normal. I would reccomend looking for a whole album to either d/l or buy before you make a decision though. They're the type of band that needs to be absorbed.

That makes sense. As you said all their albums are different, so it would be a bit quick of me to judge whether or not I liked them based on just a song or two. I'll check out those links tomorrow and then I'll get back to you. I'd do it now, but it's 10PM and I don't like playing my music quietly...but at the same time I don't like waking up everyone in my house.

Well, I listened to:
Sadness Will Prevail
The Descent
Pinnacle
Blindspot
Possession

You were right when you said they weren't the same. Anyway, I completely liked 3/5 of them.

"Sadness Will Prevail"- A little too slow for me, still not a bad song but not too great in my opinion. Then again I can definitely see why someone would like it.

"The Descent"- This one was fast and louder, so I liked it more than "Sadness Will Prevail". Good song.

"Pinnacle"- Slow and not too much noise, but hey it was awesome. I'll need to listen to it again though.

"Blindspot"- I ummm...yeah...it was a little creepy and too acoustic for my tastes.

"Possession"- Another good one, was a little more melodic than the rest...and plenty of noise.

I'll go check out some more later on.

Sadness Will Prevail is the title track to the album, "Sadness Will Prevail". I think it's only fair to tell you that this album is a double-discer and carries over 2 hours of Today is the Day insanity. Same with "The Descent" although I find this one to be more like a catchy radio song then anything else I've heard on that album. Other than perhaps "Crooked". You should watch the video for "The Descent" to get an idea of how these guys act when they play. They sound like a five piece band when in fact, they are only a trio.
