If half the class can't look in their book for a freaking formula to plug numbers into, then half the class deserves to be failing.

My class is kind of like that, but worse. We'll get like, ten problems for homework (remember, this is ALGEBRA. Easy). My class starts complaining for fifteen minutes, then my teacher, being the submissive type, drops it to a mere three problems (at this time, I've done about six or seven). Even after he does this, they still don't turn in their homework and constantly ask for help when they can simply flip to page 178 for COMPLETE instructions along with examples.

Oh, and the answers to odd numbered questions are in the back of the book. I commend the genius who decided that this was a good idea.

Well, I'm in Geometry, and the kids there....

so stupid. We get a question like "two fo the sides of a triangle equal 120 degrees. How much is the last side?"

And we get kids(juniors and seniors, mostly) whipping out their TI-83s to figure this out. And they get it wrong.

And my teacher....the kids mock him so much, I almost feel bad for him, except I really don't like him.

Or my class.

Geoetry's not about formulas really, its more about the postulates, and theorums of how things work, and if she doesn't teach you those in the right way then your totaly lost . .hence our teacher is a pot smokeing moron . .who was actually a janitor that just got locked in the classroom closet, found her way out and dressed like a teacher . . .

Geometry is easier than Algebra.
Geoemtry only requires logical ability. Hence proofs in which you prove certain statements are true using postulates and theorems.
However, if half the class doesn't get that the sum of the angles of any given triangle is equal to 180 degrees, then yes, your class does deserve to be failing. It always makes me laugh when kids in my class say my teacher is a bad teacher because they don't get what's going on.
"She only says things once," well you know what, if you weren't listening or you didn't get it, then look in the damned book or ask a question. It's not her fault that you stayed silent or didn't pay attention.
We should realize that teachers get payed next to nothing, so if she only wants to say something one time, more power to her.

I know what you mean . . "shrug" I mean people do thier homework, but she just spews out answer and doesn't explaine how to get them. It's also not as simple as the sum of the angles of a triangle equal 180 degrees, but it would help if people took time to learn the postulates, and theorums. She doesn't really explaine the proofs, but that all goes back to learning the postulates and crap . .so i dunno . .most of the time we proove her wrong . .

My teacher has a similar problem. Except he attempts to show us how to do the problem on the board...but he writes the problem incorrectly. For example (this is a VERY basic Algebra problem):

x+5b=11 Solve for 'x'.

He'll write this:

x+86=1L

And no, I'm not exaggerating.

Most people who really "get" math write fast.
Their brain works faster than their hand.
This causes inaccuracies in copying a problem or causing the problem to be illegible.
It's really common.
I do it all the time. When I show my work, that is.

That makes sense. Sometimes I just feel like writing scribbles because I've already finished the problem in my mind but need to write it down.
The thing is, I don't know why he does it so quickly, a lot of the time you can't even read the equation.

He does it because he can really do nothing else with his life.
And at least when he goes to this job every day, he knows that he didn't screw his life up as much as the gym teacher did.

I think the worst part is that my teacher always puts me in the spotlight for being the smart(aka sensible) one...I did a problem on area of a rectangle, which you learn in what, 5th grade(?) and he always goes, "Now, you see how Bobby(being me) did this? He multiplied! Do any of you understand this?"

And noone responds, because no one understands.

I think the best part is one time, a dumb kid attepted to cheat off me(I can see him looking at my paper so easily...) and in the end, I got a 100 and he got something like a 54. And I laugh. He's dumb and can't cheat well.

Lol, gym teacher...

Yeah, my gym teacher used to be a cheerleader. She's also the cheerleading coach, she also dances with the cheerleaders and talks to them about their boyfriends and whatnot. She's in her 30's. Reaching for lost youth, perhaps?

I thought of my gym teacher as a cheerleader thanks to that post....
And to prove how bad that is: When my dad turned the tv to our like, school station, and she was on it, my dad said "Who is that guy?".

I like how this thread stayed on topic to spanking
