I have no problem with an occasional IMO or WTF. I'll even give you OMG. But I can't stand seeing things like "DH" and "DD" and "SO". What if your daughter or husband aren't dear? And SO sounds like you're on parole or something.

What exactly do these ones mean? Is it Dear Husband and Dear Daughter? I must be out of the loop because I don't use these ones.

Hm, does SO stand for significant other? Perhaps people don't want to appear stupid because they can't spell significant.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

Pwned!

Sorry, couldn't resist. I pretty much try to restrict myself to "lol," and I try to keep that at a bare minimum.

When I was a kid starting out on the net I used lol...then I realized how dumb it was and everyone was doing it and I was (and sometimes still am) anti-what everyone else is doing, so I changed it up and sounded more realistic with a normal "haha" and stick to it.
There was a commercial recently with some preteen chick talking to her mom in nothing but abbreviations...it's just sick.
And if I hear "vacay" one more time...that's such an ugly word. "Sitch" is bad enough. Makes me think of that funny Chris Farley skit..."SupercalifragilisticexpialiDOSH!"

Yeah, LOL should have made my list too. It's so... I don't know, annoying or juvenile? And then there's LMAO. It sounds like a sick cat. And, yes, it's Dear Husband and Dear Daughter, but it took me a long time to decipher those. Once I did, they annoyed me.

I seen that commercial the other day. I actually thought it was pretty true to how kids talked. I thought the Mom in the ad came back with some good ones.

I try not to use the abbreviations, but will use the smilies if a forum has them. Occasionally, an LOL does slip passed my fingers, but it's purely unintentional. Huge Grin

Because I strive to be original or humorous, I usually actually take the time to make up something else...for awhile I had borrowed my friend's rofflecopters and lollerskates until everyone started saying it, then I would say lollersaurus rex. For omg I'd say Oh Em Gee or Ohmigoz. for WTF I'd say Double Yoo Tee Eff (a reference to Fredryk Phox, internet star), and I used brb as normal because usually I would have to be very quick about it. These were all more funny than annoying.

I must admit that despite my ongoing aversion to these abbreviations I have (and will continue) to use "wtf" "brb" and- my fave because it has multiple meanings depending on what you're REALLY trying to say...."GIYF"
