Xbox Modding: New Hard Drive Old Tue Sep 19, 2006 5:54:58 AM #24274 Perm Link
I figured out the softmodding of my Xbox and it is really awesome. The FTP and other things work great.

I would now like to upgrade my hard drive to a bigger one. I have a spare 120GB that I can use.

How do I go about doing this?

STEP 1: Taking apart the system:

First you will take all of your wires off the system

Then flip the system and peel off the four tabs and punction holes in the to labels where screws are located...

Remove the 6 screws from the base using the Torx 20 screw driver.
You will need to either make a hole in the stickers or peal them up to remove the two hidden screws.

The case can now be lifted open to reveal the Hard Drive and DVD Rom.

Using a Torx 10 screw driver you can now removethe three screws from inside of the xbox. Screws 1+2 hold the front part of the DVD Rom to the case. Screw 3 holds the inside housing to the case.

Unplug the molex adaptor (power cable) from the Hard disk drive. This may be a little tight but has no clips and can just be pulled away from the drive.

Remove the IDE cable from both the Hard disk drive. Again this has no clips and can be pulled away from the drive.

You can now lift out the Hard disk drive housing, you may need to unclip the wires that run down the right hand side of the housing.

STEP 2: Installign files to new HDD

Basicly you will need Xbox Hdd maker.

This program will include a tut inside that says what you need and how to duplicate a drive. All I can say is you will need to FTP and copy the C:/ and E:/ and the eeprom folders.

You will need a pc and a dvd or cd burner, a hdd that is lockable.

STEP 3: Putting it back together

Just reverse the steps you did in STEP 1

Any problems or error codes post I may be able to help also try surfing teh web for problems cant help you with
