I'm surprised they went with Britain to portay the movie.

The reason is that it is 'in' to hate on America while Britain has some pretty messed up policies... I fully believe that this situation may occur in Britain's future.

For example, the constant surveillance. In America, we enjoy our right to privacy (and we better fight when it is violated). In Britain, there are cameras everywhere and they can even ticket you for speeding and running red lights without police being present. This is the first step.

The movie did blend in many conspiracy items as well. I'll leave others to continue the discussion.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

I was also suprised that they used England. I agree that something like that could in fact happpen. People are generally stupid and easily manipulated. I was really impressed with the role that the media played. People don't realize it, but I'm sure that what the media releases is heavily distorted.

But currently, I don't think that it is screwed with the government in mind. The movie does portay what role the media can play, though.

that is already going on here in the US in some states.
My Cousin lives in California. He got a letter in the mail with a picture of his car running a red light and a ticket. It was from a camera mounted above an intersection.

They may have used Britain but the movie clearly drew parallels to the current-day state and situations in America. So whether the situation was in Europe or not the movie makers adapted the story to fit with America.

They used the current problems in America to raise Britain to a higher level and Britain basically casted all other countries off. That's what it seems...

You really couldn't tell because even the movie was full of propaganda. The BTN would be consistantly reporting on how America sucks and how the entire world has problems and that Britain is awesome...

It took place in Britain because Alan Moore wrote the graphic novel about Britain because he lived there. Kinda like 1984, it was a reaction to what the author saw in politics, he wrote it during Margerat Thatcher's time as PM, which if you didn't know she was so Conservative she made Ronald Reagan say "Holy shit she's conservative!".

I agree, cameras, microchips, credit cards, gift point cards, surveys, all that stuff is their way to keep track of citizens, know what they're doing, where they are, etc. It's subtle, but it's starting to sneak it's way in... V strongly pointed it out.

To Me this movie represents a not to far future, we are already becoming (are) slaves to technology and Government monitoring. GPS tracking via Cell Phones, Car antitheft Lojack/On star systems, If you own an EZ Pass they know every time You pass a toll, Government and companies tracking our internet usage, credit card purchasing and so on. I feel my freedom is being striped away as technology progresses and time passes. When that happens I will be know as B

B for Bendetta...LOL I like the sound of that.

This was like a 1984 for dummies movie.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, but it was presented in such a way that nothing is going to happen because of it.

People are just going to do the menial things like "Oh hey, look it's a dictatorship where everything sucks, let's not let that happen."

However, when it comes down to it, is anything changing? Is anyone doing anything to prevent this? It's easy to look at Britain and see it, because we're not in the situation. Imagine what the British and Canadians are saying about US.

God bless:
Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkovitz, Albert DeSavo,
Ted Bundy, Albert Fish, John Wayne Gacy,
Edward Gein, Charles Manson, and Harvey Carignan.

I loved the part when V made that lady think she was captured and being tortured by her government, and then the story about the lesbian, that's my most favourite part

I know! When I found out it was Hugo Weaving (Elrond from LotR and Mr. Smith from the Matrix) I was beyond words.

After watching V for Vendetta three times and as many fan videos as I could lay my hands on I went out and rented The Fellowship of the Ring just so I could hear Hugo's voice some more because that is the kind of pathetic little person I am. Huge Grin

Spoiler:

The fact V never revealed his face was pretty cool for the character and the film. "What does he look like?" Natalie Portman's character wonders. But V answers it well enough himself, something like "I'm more than the face beneath this mask and the bones beneath my face" or something similar, I forget the exact words. For a film not to reveal the main character's face or eyes, like say Batman, Spider-Man or any other masked hero film, I was impressed, as it really drives V's point home: 'Look past the surface, there waits the truth.'
