3/5 isn't great.

How does the story compare to the first. I really liked the first one due to the story.

If you're a fan of the first Pirates then see this movie for sure. I would like to say that it was improperly named as "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" because it should really be called "The Intro to Pirates of the Caribbean 3". Other than that I was pleased.

I never understood what the big deal is. Yes, it was a rare good movie from Disney. But many were calling it the be-all end all of live-action kids movies. And considering I just don't see Johnny Depp as a good actor for that role kind of clinched it for me.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

While it's totally your opinion, I think most would disagree with you about Depp's ability to pull off Captain Jack Sparrow. If anything, I think his character was the major draw that pulled many to see Pirates 2. Of course there are always those who go because of the looks of Orlando Bloom or Depp but you don't hear anyone talking about how they love Will Turner or Elizabeth. Captain Jack has become a Disney icon and I think that alone shows Depp was more than qualified for the role.

It was good because he was a likable person in the first one, but still a pirate.

Besides... he's Capt Jack Sparrow!

Those people won't know the ending to Pirates 2 until Pirates 3 comes out. If they don't like Pirates 3, then they can say that Pirates 2 did not have a good ending.

Keep in mind that I did enjoy the movie. However, I really don't think it was anywheres near the best movie of the year, whihc is what all of the critics have been saying. I know Depp is good at the role, but I just don't like him as the person who filled the role.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?

Saw this over the weekend. It wasn''t terrible, but I wouldn't say it was a great movie, I wouldn't go see it again, I won't be buying the DVD. The visual effects where nice, but the story was mediocre and at times hard to follow, the movie was just way too long (2 1/2 hours!) and yet still left the whole story unresolved. I am all for sequels, and maybe even a cliffhanger at the end, but I was waiting for the network announcer at the end of the credits telling me to tune in next week for the exciting concluclusion.

Woot! For the longest time I couldn't log in for some reason...

Anyhow.

I didn't like this movie as much as I did the first one (which I love). It wasn't as funny or as witty and the action sequences were pretty far fetched. I mean come on, three guys fencing as they balance on a water mill rolling through the jungle whilst trying to steal a key from each other?

Not to mention the dead people coming back to life with no explanation and stuff.

I'm sure there should be an explination in the third movie.

I was pretty fond of the water mill scene. I thought it was hilarious. I'm surprised though that you mentioned the water mill fencing scene as far-fetched and not the huge kracken following Jack Sparrow all through out the ocean because of a mark on his hand.

This movie isn't going to answer life or anything, but it was entertaining. That's all you can really ask for from a Disney production.

If you did not see the first one, good luck with this installment.

The Good: Action, Effects, Same Characters.

The Bad: It was OK. The story was a little hard to follow. It was very long. I found myself fidgiting in my seat, which I never do unless I'm bored with a movie. To top it off, it leaves you with a big fat ass "TO BE CONTINUED" at the end. 100 times worse than the cliff hanger at the end of the Matrix2. At least with tMatrix2, we wanted to know more. I personally am over it since Pirates2 smashed my hopes for a good movie. Overall, I just plain did not enjoy it all tha much. No way near the first one's calibre.

Star Wars was good because of Lucas' noninvolvement on the original 3. He didn't do the editing and they were good.
