i get real sick and tired of seeing a movie that looks really good, then i notice it follows another plot from another movie. then this goes on and im like, hey this looks like a good movie, then another knock off. hence, we have had many bad squels and such. movies that keep returning when they need to go and die. like the new more, finding neverland. how many movies has there been following the same damn peter pan plot?

get some new material movie producers. jesus, you guys even made movies that dont need to come back into sqeuls.

one reason for this (other than the fact mainstream hollywood has been out of new ideas for years) is that the big studios are not willing to take chances. they only produce what they know will sell. with the cost of making a big movie these days, i can understand why, but it still sucks.

one trend i personally hate is this whole prequel thing. nothing is more boring than watching a movie with characters that you already know the future of. case in point, star wars....3 movies dedicated to some bowl-headed kid that becomes darth vader? gimme a break. IMO they should of started with episode III's plot, and then made some cool star wars flicks with darth vader kicking all kinds of ass. who cares about pod racing and all that shit. "Yippee! That's wizard, annie!" lucas makes me want to kill myself....

Why waste time on movies? I could see a whole television series on Darth Vader running around and kicking some serious resistance butt (there can't be a rebellion until you get rid of the resistance).

As for original plots, you don't really see them much, as anything can be likened back to something that's at least 100 years old. Most people would go back to Shakespear, Greak mythos and the Bible, but, in truth, the human psyche doesn't get a good prodding until Poe started to delve into it. Conspiracy theories, Human Psyche, People versus Nature...it's all been around, already. The real problem is when the same basic 5 outlines are used EVERY SINGLE YEAR. It reminds me how there are only three plots to Star Trek movies (which someone else mentioned, I think, on this board, like, two years ago), but I can still watch Denny Crane in a red suit.

If Any-time-of-year "Blockbuster" Movies are very annoying, do what anyone else who likes good movies would do: Sign up on Net Flicks and get some of the decent stuff that goes to Sundance or Cannes. Even better, pick up the foreign stuff! My God Man! Look around! You want scifi, go to Germany; need horror, go to Japan; like family-based plots, go to Italy. Need a good comedy, go to India. If you want romance, go to Brazil. If you wan really passionate romance with FLAT OUT [expletive deleted]IN', go to Spain.

No one on Linux should ever write that many goto statements.

Good laugh. Good points made. I have to agree with the Star Wars prequel thing. When I first heard Star Wars "Prequels", I figured they'd have to use younger actors to play the roles of Luke, Leia, Han, etc, but not even that was done. "Darth Vader kicking all kinds of ass" would've rocked. All we got was him breaking out of some arm bolts and yelling, "Nooooo!" Then looking at the Death Star for 2 seconds. There was so much potential with the characters already there. Oh well. At least Darth Maul kicked ass.

Shakespeare was said to re-do plots, too. Look at his works.

That's just one example, though. Shakespeare took old common stories, and made them into works of art - more for entertainment than morale. What I'm saying is that, just because movies have similar plotlines doesn't mean that they can't be their own unique works of art. Of course, I don't see many modern Shakespeares that make movies. Most of the movies/plays/etc based off of shakespeare's stuff rocks too. Look at "My Fair Lady", "The Lion King", "Star Wars", "Saving Private Ryan" etc.

My Fair Lady was a great play off of Pygmalion. The Lion King - Macbeth. Disney did that very well. The rest I've really never thought about.

Years ago, one of my literature teachers said, "Every story you've read has been repeated in one way or another over the years. Similar themes are impossible to avoid repeating," something like that.

Every idea's been done, Butters, even
before the Simpsons.

CHEF
Yeah. In fact, that episode was a rip-off
of a Twilight Zone episode.

BUTTERS
Really? So I shouldn't care if I come
up with an idea, and the Simpsons already
did it. It... uh...doesn't... matter.
Everything is back to normal, a, I
think... I think I can go back to tryin'
to destroy the world again.

CHEF
Good for you!

CARTMAN
Yeah, that's great Butters. Now get

What I'm saying is that, just because movies have similar plotlines doesn't mean that they can't be their own unique works of art.

Tell that to Roger Moore. "In this movie, Roger Moore sleeps with women. In this movie, Roger Moore sleeps with Women in a steam room. In this movie, Roger Moore sleeps with women in a car, then a train, and finally a boat. In this movie, Roger Moore sleeps with women in space. In this movie Roger Moore sleeps with women at a..."

Just because the same actor frequents in doing the same thing in movies doesn't make the movie the same. If that were so, no movies would be different.

That works to most actors, but not Roger Moore. Theres a saying I once heard: "The movie's plot never changes, just the name Roger Moore is called in the movie."

I have seen quite a few movies with him as the starring role, and I have to say that saying doesn't seem too far from the truth (even barring Bond movies). On the flipside though, I do realize that just because I think it doesn't mean it's true aswell, as you may have a differing opinion.

Truthfully, I wasn't being specific to the actor, because I'm not sure I've seen any of his movies. I was just saying.
