My new gaming computer... Old Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:30:38 PM #12159 Perm Link
I didn't know exaclty where to put this, so I put it in the gaming forum (after all, that is the main purpose of the computer). Anyway, here is a list of what I am getting:

Motherboard: Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLi nForce4 SLI Audio/GB-LAN/IEEE/USB/PCI-E/SATAII/DDR/ATX 64 939
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 1MB 90nm Rev. E San Diego (939), (Plan to overclock it a bit as well)
Memory: 2GB Corsair DDR (400) 3200 (2 Pieces, 1GB each)
Video Card: BFG Tech Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3, VIVO, PCI Express x16 (eventually plan to get two and go SLI)
Sound Card: BlueGears HDA Digital XMystique 7.1 Gold Sound Card
Hardrive: 120 GB, 7200 RPM, 16MB Cache
Secondary Hardrive: 80 GB, 7200 RPM, 8MB Cache (ie. the one I am using now)
DVD Burner: Two, Sony 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE
Floppy Drive: Sony 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive
Keyboard: I-Rocks XSlim Illuminated Keyboard
Mouse: Razer Diamondback Plasma *Limited Edition* 1600 DPI Optical Mouse
Case: Thermaltake Xaser III V2000A [ with dual blue cold cathode kit (sound reactive) ]
Power Supply: SilverStone Zeus 650W Power Supply nVIDIA SLI Certified
Speakers: I don't know (some kind of surround sound ones)
Monitor: 17" LCD (ie. the one I am using now)
Other: Caffeine to stay up and play all night Wink

Comments? It will cost me an arm and a leg but it is worth it to me. I already have enough money for half the computer and should have the other half somewhat soon.

Also, any suggestions for the OS I should use for the gaming computer. I am using Windows XP Professional on my computer right now (mainly because I got it for free).

*edit* Doh, I forgot I could have just edited the first post to ask this. Sorry about the double post.

The computer will survive for a few years. I've seen the Silverstone power supplies, they are good quality.

You aren't really skimping on any piece (except for non RAID hard drive Wink). What do you plan on spending for this beast?

Well, I have calculated it up and it will cost me arround $2000 or so (give or take a few hundred Wink ) but I have some of the stuff already and over half the cash needed, so I should have it all around Christmas (I would have it sooner but with college starting up, my hours at work will be cut).

I've got an extra Adaptec 39160 SCSI Card if you're interested in going SCSI on yoru HDD? It's 64bit compatible..

The newer Adaptec 1210SA cards absolutely suck for Serial ATA Raid. I'd stay away from the Adaptec line of Serial ATA cards. We couldn't get two identical WD hard drive in RAID 1 to work. The card says the array was degraded. This happened once every 3 bootups. The card was also unstable in Windows. I popped in a Promise card and it worked great.

If you do want to do RAID, serial ATA is the way to go.
