I just heard from sources that CompUSA will be closing 128 out of its 229 stores. They will be taken over by liquidators starting tomorrow (Wed). All stores in NJ are closing except for one.
It looks like the beginning of the end for CompUSA that employees predicted. I used to work for CompUSA and most employees considered this the likely outcome. This news was heard on a conference call today at about 3PM. Did your store make the cut? http://www.compusa.com/locations/store.asp
That's weird, I knew they were struggling, but to close stores on that short of a notice sounds more like creditors seizing assets than a well planned store closing.
Their press release says they will get a $400 million cash infusion out of the deal (something they can burn through pretty quickly with 100 stores and their on-line operations)
When I first read the list I thought that was the stores that were closing, but it's actually the ones that will survive (for now) I guess I'll have to go see what the liquidators are blowing out, we have/had too many COMPUSA's around here, some just a couple miles apart. (some were Good Guy's stores they converted to regular CompUSA stores)
I won't miss their incompatent staff, but they did have some pretty good sales/rebates (regular prices were way too high)
