if you read the second book, you will find that long ago before dragonriders came, there was a big fight between the elves and the dragons. both were strong and in the end they made and alliance between themselves and all human beings. and that's how from generations dragons has been choosing their riders, in order to fight among them against their enemies. i hope you understood this.

Well, I saw the movie today and I must admit that I have read the book and I thought it was okay. I knew they wouldn't be able to do all the events in this but I am angered that they did leave out some major events such as: I know some of these have been listed already

Isadar Mithrim
How Brom Died
how Eragon in the book had brown hair
How they killed the razac
How eragon got the slice which is quite relevant in the second one
The stupid Star Wars scene ( When he starts looking out into the horrizon)
How the movie took 2 days ( I mean WTF how the hell do you travel a entire huge ass area and have a battle and save a elf princess in 2 days. In the book it took him 2 years total because he was 19 by the end of the book)
The Dragon at the end was just pointless ( I mean not literally it wasn't pointless but how was it behind a map throughout the whole movie.
Durza's stupid gay ass spirit thing
How Eragon Killed Durza
Not Having the Twins, which is relevant in the second book as well
Making the Urgals deformed Humans. I was lead to believe in the book that Urgals were monsters.
The Fact that this movie should have been rated PG-13 and then they could have added bodies in Yazuac and some blood
How they Killed Sloan
That is really all I can think off right now

Hair color has little to do with the plot.

I listed all of those, and you've overlooked many things. What about Solembum and the prophecy?

ah yes, since I read the book I decided the movie sucked, seeing as it was no where near accurate to the book

This one time while transcending simple physical space...

I liked the movie. It just didn't follow the book very well. Also I said you listed some of them. I did come up with a few of my own though.

I don't get why they cut characters like that. Especially when they know they have very relevent parts in the the future plot. Like in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire they cut out the scene where we get the first glimpse of Bellatrix Lestrange (who in the next book kills a VIP character).

In all honesty, no big screen adaptations can ever truly hold a flame to the books 0which they're based on. With HP and LotR, you've got a larger budget and more fanatical fans who are more likely to skin you alive if you miss a minor detail, which god knows, they do anyway.
Eragon is popular, but not at the level of the above mentioned franchises. That alone is not enough to make a bad movie, though. You also need an insipid director. Now, Stefen Fangmeier is an incredible special effects guy who's done a number of very famous, very good movies. However, there's a big difference between effects supervisor ... and director. Yes, this was his first time directing a big movie, and although he worked as an assistant director on Dreamcatcher and Galax Quest, which are both excellent films, I don't think he was quite ready to play with the big kids.
Keeping with that metaphor, it's like they put him in a sandbox and gave him a picture of a sandcastle ... and instead he dug a hole and shat in it and now he's just going to get sand kicked in his face from everyone.

If a book like Charlotte's Web requires two hours then there's no reason that they couldn't have pushed for more than an hour and a half on this movie.
