Why The PS3 Will Fail

i completley think now that sony is in over their heads with the ps3. its too expensive, the games are too expensive, the idea of the motion sensetive controller was stolen from nintendo, and its too damn expensive!
im gonna buy a xbox 360 soon and i know that all of you are probably thinking why the hell don't you buy a wii. im not buying a wii not because the graphics, gameplay, or cost, its because in the mornin, i don't wanna have to get up off my couch to play a boxin game and look like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_LHjDItkHM what if i just wanna sit down, not move, and play a damn video game. the wii isn't going to make a huge profit in the long run with this stratgey, it sounds amazing now but in a year are you gonna wanna keep doing that? the 360 is NOW stable (new shipments etc the new bundle) im gonna buy fifa gears of war halo 3 and cod3 (for live) and thats all i need, plus the wireless controllers duh =D

I think they launched it far too early.

PS2 still has some legs on it, I plan on buying one very soon. I am actually looking to trade my PSP for one.

The Wii will have games that don't require you to move... I want to play those crazy games that do.

its quite cool to play games with motion sensers but i have a doubt with the camera angles.

Haha. I don't have any video games because some how I always end up breaking them and then taking them apart to try to fix it and make it worse! So, I stay away from those things lol.

well yah that wii video does look pretty damn gay but thats boxing.. and not all games are boxing.. plus the wii does look like it'll be fun when your bored w/ controlers and hey you get wirless controlers w/ ps3 anyways.. and i checked out the ps3 and i think it's actually pretty good

Considering the PS3 has Blu-Ray on board and the HD-DVD player for the 360 costs $200 the PS3's price isn't so bad when comparing the cheaper models.

Nintendo knew they were gonna get raped when trying to compete with MS and Sony in the graphics department and that is the reason why they made the Wii, they headed towards more multiplayer gameplay with friends and a new controller system rather than sweet lookin graphics. If Nintendo didn't do this they would get owned by Sony and MS.

I don't think that's quite it. I agree that Nintendo might have thought that they would not be able to compete graphically with the 360 and the PS3 however I don't believe that they ever wanted to. Nintendo knew/knows that there is something wrong with gaming and they are trying to fix it. The problem with Sony is that they are gaming and see no reason to fix anything. They'll keep handing us the same game with slicker looking graphics. However, if you want superior graphics why buy a console at all? Why not just play a PC?

I'd gladly sacrifice graphics for a game that's more fun to play. Remember the Nintendo-Sega console wars back in the '90s? Sega fell into the same mindset that Sony is in now. Oh wow, blast processing... now you can play games on a CD instead of a cartridge... now you can play on cartridges again because we have 32 bits of graphical definition... but how were the games? They sucked. The majority of SNES games ruled in comparison to their Sega counter-parts. I'm not a Nintendo fan-boy or anything and I do love the Sega and some of the titles that they have put out but the fact is that they shot themselves in the foot by focusing on graphics instead of gameplay.

Nintendo is bringing something different to the world of gaming and I can't wait to see how far they take it.

I totally agree with the last poster. I'm jaded as hell when it comes to games, I've been playing the same games for about 20 years just with different graphics. My PC can already match a PS3 and in a year it will easily exceed it. The only reason to get a console is for different gameplay experiences and guess what? With the ps3 and 360 they're going to be serving me doom 14, need for speed 18, microprose flight sim 23, madden 07, tony hawk 8, etc etc.

Yeah if there was no wii i'd just take my sequels and be happy but I'm glad I have another choice. Sure, i'll still be playing punch out, but i'll be swinging! Sure, it's madden 07, but i'll be throwing the ball and catching it, same thing for every other established genre and new genre. The wii will also allow creators to make entirely new genres of games which were not possible before.

The eventual goal of gaming is the holodeck. The graphics are way far in the future as well as the matter simulation aspect, but Nintendo is bringing us leaps and bounds ahead in immersion and virtual reality. If not for the wii, the sixaxis would just have been a wireless dualshock. Think about that, Nintendo is forcing bigger guys to adapt and change, if they didn't innovate then the ps3 would just be a faster ps2, if not for xbl the ps3 would probably not have a good plan for online support.

Your not required to buy the Xbox HD DVD drive or a wireless controller. Hell most people I know don't even have a HD TV (idk why they don't).

Why? No HDTV signal and too expensive and our TV looks fine for DVDs.

in my opinon, the ps3 is out of my budget even though that diagram, bottom line is the cost doesn't matter "what" your paying for its how much your paying for it, if i end up with what i need then im fine with that, wii is gonna do good but its just too out of the box for me, and the 360 is just now stable and efficient and i absolutley love xbox live and the games that are for it even if some are multi platform. plus the feel of the 360's controller and the layout of it is simply perfect.

This thread could be called "Why the XBox 360 will fail" for many of the same reasons.

And when compared to the amount of stuff gotten in the premium 360 when compared the base PS3, that makes the Premium 360 too expensive.

Microsoft was the one that bullshitted everyone into thinking that the $10 price hike was because the games were more expensive to develop (sure, Bill. I bet porting PC games to what is essentially a PC can get mighty expensive).

While I agree that the implementation of the idea was a knee-jerk reaction to Nintendo, the idea of it was not stolen from Nintendo.

While I agree that the 32X was a stupid, stupid idea that deserved to fail (but Vitrua Fighter kicks ASS on the 32X), the Sega CD was a good idea, and many of the games on it were damned good.

There are two reasons that is a flawed arguement:
1) The PS2 has been out for over 6 years now. That is more than enough time to need to replace a console, and Sony is not going to drop support for the PS2 any time soon.
2) The original XBox was on the market for less than 4 years. Than was dropped completely, both Hardware and Software, by Microsoft.

You seem to think that I support Microsofts decision. I think it was damned stupid, I enjoy my Xbox very much still, and find some of its games (Far Cry Instincts, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory) to be very graphically comparable to Xbox 360 games.

I think there is plenty of life left in many of the consoles, and there was no real need to advance the consoles but for graphics, except in the case of the Wii, and that is the reason that, while I LOVE my Xbox, and LOVED my PS2 (before it crashed and burned), I will (initially) only be buying a Wii in this generation of consoles, as they did not spend as much time trying to improve graphics, but rather gameplay.

Yeah, but the original XBox is no longer being produced, nor is it having games made for it by Microsoft. Which reeks of Sega circa 1995.

Microsoft is smart.. you wouldn't beleive how many people come in wanting the original Xbox , end up buying the 360. Halo 3 is going to be a HUGE selling point also. Since it will be a 360 exclusive.

omfg don't even start me on halo... god i hate that game but i love the newer NFS racing game..

halo 3 is gonna make microsoft a buttload of money and halo wars is probably going to be a nice addition to the series as well. admit it halo is a fun game, the only reason people hate it is because of things like the screaming 10 year olds and tea bagging faggots, but the game itself is fun.

I see people all the time coming to buy XBox 360 for Gears of War, I'm sure these same people will be back to buy new Halo games. I do not see the PS3 failing, but I also see no reason to own one right now as there are NO games worth playing. It will likely be 6 months or more before there are any real games out for the PS3, the launch titles are horrible. The Wii looks fun, but I think I would get bored with the nifty motion controllers fairly quickly, but I haven't had my hands on one so I might be wrong.

I wouldn't buy an Xbox. There are no games on it that really interest me. Not to say that I wouldn't want to play any of them.

I'm more into games like DDR, etc, and all of the DDR games on Xbox, well, suck. Playstation mainly has all of the good ones, and if I see any good ones come out on PS3, I may very well buy one.
