Haven't tried the browser yet as I am at work. I'll try it when I get home. I have heard some great things from Opera.

Opera is a great browser and I use it right along with Firefox. Opera feels faster overall, but Firefox has extensions.

I'll add to this that Opera doesn't work with Proxy Servers such as MS ISA that have NTLM proxy auth.

This is plain stupid.

Thanks.

I have enough crap software installed, and it started with my operating system. Why install Opera? They don't deserve it. I guess it's another case of 'follow the leader'. Opera following Firefox; Intel following AMD; AMD following Intel; Gas Prices following Hurricanes; Cable ISP's Prices following DSL ISP's Prices. Unoriginal sucks.

I think this is one of the number one reasons why certains companies, groups and individuals are so successful, is because they make their own path based on their own unique ideas. Look at Google, Ferrari, Bill Gates, Ron Jeremy, etc.

I'm tired of hearing about new things that are supposed to solve all your problems, especially software. The fact is that Microsoft Internet Explorer is the most compatible and widely used browser on the market. More problems will be found with a program that is used by a greater number of people, than by a program run by only a handful. It didn't take long after X number of downloads of Mozilla until they found a major security bug with extentions portion of the browser. How long until Opera bugs are discovered?

The fact of the matter is, it's all about knowledge. The more you have, the better off you'll be.

So keep reading ASE Forums and Articles... never stop learning.

I like the look of it, but I think it's kinda pathetic that they have google ads in it. Leads fast and I like how it displays objects.

If you went to the link you would see that there are no ads anymore. Opera is free and non adware.

I've been using Opera for the last 20 millenia, and in spite of its problems I enjoy the hell out of it. I close it with 10 sites tabbed when i log out of linux, then open it the next time ready to roll. It gets me to the info I want fast as hell, which is what I personally want out of a browser.

The main difference in security between IE and firefox is firefox' open source nature. in firefox, security issues and other bugs are fixed repidly and effectively. now look at what microsoft does all the time. nothing.

Let's see, IE. Internet Explorer is NOT the most compatible browser . What do you think it's compatible to ? Microsoft rules ? Sure, but they don't have any status outside IE and are thus void. Official standards ? HAR. Opera for that, closely followed by firefox. To what then ? web sites ? come on, it's the web sites that are compatible to IE, not IE to the websites. The web designers make their sites compatible to IE because it is the most used browser, Do you have any idea how many web designers write replace standard code just to support IE ? IE is popular for the same reasons Windows Media player is popular. Not because it is a great program. In fact, the only worse browser I have ever used was netscape 4 (oh, and IE 3). It's because of unfair market stratiegies. See the EU antitrust cases against Microsoft.

I definately second that. That's the kind of stuff web designers want.

Just to clarify, IE is not necessarily the most "POPULAR" browser by any means.
Just because the IE browser is used by more users than any other browser DOES NOT make it the most popular.
Plain and simple, IE is the most used browser ONLY because it is bundled with the most used Operating System, that is all.
It's still crap.

And not to give any props to MS, to say they do NOTHING is a false. They put out security patches, fixes all the time. That sounds like more than NOTHING.

In my personal experience, IE has crashed on me shitloads of times (using it at work) while opera and firefox have not once done so.

Also, I've had MAJOR problems trying to get IE to run on Linux. Razz

Nah, that was made in jest. I consider IE to be malware that I wish Norton could take out of my xp installation. It's probably the second biggest security hole in my system, next to XP itsself.
