Scariest Movie Evar?! Old Wed Jun 8, 2005 5:35:06 PM #11787 Perm Link
What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? I haven't seen very many horror films but the ones that I have seen were supposed to be really fucking scary but weren't. So I figured I'd watch the Exorcist because it's hailed as a really fucking scary movie but I ended up laughing more then screaming. It wasn't a scary movie... so what was it? An educational film? All I really learned was "YOUR MOTHER SUCKS COCKS IN HELL!!!1one", Linda Blaire has a humondo bladder, and that Captain Winky--I mean Howdy wasn't so nice after all.

I think the enviroment and frame of mind you're in largely accounts for the amount of fear you experience while watching the movie. We watched the Excorcist in broad daylight with a boy who can't help but make fun of EVERYthing and ANYthing questionable in a movie. Plus, stupid git, was jumping into my lap more then I was his. The scariest movie I can recall is Session 9. We watched that movie in the dark really late and we LOA-DED on sugar.

Eh, I was kind of joking...

I don't watch very many horror type movies.

Though I want to see Dawn of the Dead....

Dawn of the Dead is like most other zombie movies, it's not scary, it just goes for the shock and gore factors. For truly scary movies, you have to have atmosphere, which movies like that lack. The most I've been scared during a movie was probably watching Event Horizon late at night by myself, but in retrospect it's more of how I was watching it than the movie itself. Aliens was a pretty atmospheric movie, there is soemthing about the lack of music and hearing the clicking of the motion sensor getting faster and faster that just gets you scared to hell.

As for Beetlejuice, I think that has a lot to do with age, because that movie was just entirely amusing.

When I was younger, Pet Sematary and Kubrick's The Shining were the scariest movies I ever saw. Of course, the more you watch them, the less fear you eventually feel. I have to admit, when I was 7 years old or so, The Exorcist was pretty scary.

The first time I saw Evil Dead, it was a little scary. Now it's just fun to watch.

I saw Evil Dead 2 and 3 (Army of Darkness). ED3 was funnier than 2, but 2 had some great moments. Cutting off his own hand and putting a chainsaw on it? Awesome.

We own all of them on DVD. It was only funny the first fifteen times. But then again, I've seen the Fifth Element at least twice as many times and I still love it. They're supposed to be making a Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash movie. I'll have to look it up later.

The first Evil Dead isn't worth watching, the second one has a shorter version of the first and goes a bit futher. I mean why watch more old lame gore when you can watch less and get the same story line.

Evil Dead 1 focuses on the Horror and Gore (red blood) Less story, more horror, meet Ash's sister, Cheryl, who's turned into one of the best Evil Dead "zombies" ever.

Evil Dead 2 seems to focus on comedy/horror with green blood for the R rating. (I'm glad the goofball hick got pulled into the cellar by the old lady and turned into a blood bath.) A must-see for fans of Dead Alive.

To say the first dead isn't worth watching? I don't know, it was Sam Raimi's first film, and it kicked some ass for its time (even now compared to most of the crap out there) I like the cast from the first one more than part 2. And if someone enjoys the series, why wouldn't they want to see where it all began, considering Evil Dead 4 is being made?

Lame gore? Don't most horror fans like a little gore with their scares?

I agree...at the age I was when I watched the Shining...it by far has scared me more than any other scary movie I have watched since then. The only movie that came close to scaring the y"you know what" out of me since was The Ring, the first one. Pretty scary.
I actually just watched Cursed(unrated version) last night and it was not scary at all. Kind of a fun werewolf movie actually.

Yeah, that REDRUM part, with Danny repeating it over and over really freaked me out as a kid. The music too. The atmosphere, and that scene with the old, bloated lady rising out of the tub, creeping towards the camera. Scary shit as a kid. I still love the Shining.

I watched the TV movie version, which pales in comparison, but develops the book details very well. I recommend a rental if you loved the Shining/story/book. It hits plenty of the book's moments, like the scene with the garden hedge animals coming to life. Not scary, but cool to see on screen. Too bad the kid who plays Danny in the Tv version can't act very well. Especially compared to Kubrick's Danny Lloyd, from the original Shining.

Yeah, I will agree that she couldn't act to save her life, and I see she was a bitch on the set, according to Stanley Kubrick's behind the scenes reactions to her. She also starred with Robin Williams in Popeye. I will give her credit for creating a weak, moronic wife, who paled in comparison to Jack Torrance's insane madman, by Jack Nicholson, helping to create more tension.

Rebecca De Mornay is a much better actress, but she was much stronger in the TV show than the movie, which kinda took away the scare factor compared to the film version.

But when it comes to Nicholson versus the Wings guy fromt he TV version, Jack wins by a mile, even though I liked the performance from the TV guy.

Stephen King said himself he prefers the TV version for its authenticity and loyalty to his book.

I agree with every you said there.

Jack Nicholson did an awesome job being crazy. "Give me the bat Wendy..." Nice line. Except it was really a mallet. And he never said that.

I have never seen the Popeye movie. Was she Oliveoil? I can totally see her as Oliveoil.
*must rent that movie now*

The Actress was Shelley Duvall, and yes she was Olive Oyle in the Popeye movie starring Robin Williams as Popeye(see link). I actually thought she did fair job...looked pretty scared to me...hehe

Also, it WAS defiantely a bat..I just watched it again the other night(1 hour 9 minute mark)...and she WHAPS him right in the forehead with it...lmao!

I also think I know why it is so damn scarey..It's the music..man...how creepy!

I actually knew this girl who would not read the book the movie was based on because it would quote "ruin her opinion of the movie" end quote if she liked it. I can understand it when people don't want to watch a movie based on a book they've read because it ruins the image they have in their head of the book... but the other way around? Don't Think So
